The West Texas Detention Facility operates under monitored camera surveillance and is regularly patrolled by armed officers.
The West Texas Detention Facility is operated by LaSalle Corrections and managed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The facility ensures that individuals comply with immigration proceedings, including their removal from the U.S. It also protects U.S. citizens from undocumented migrants who may pose a safety risk to the broader community.
At the WTDF, a warden is put in charge of the daily facility operations, and facility staff regularly provide food and medical services to the detainees. The WTDF uses a five-week varied menu cycle certified by a nutritionist. The food staff also have a list of all detainees who require special diets and provide these diets to them daily. Health care services are provided, including intake screenings and the physical examination of detainees upon arrival.
Detainees have access to the facility’s law library, which offers a range of legal research materials, documents, and books.
ICE detainees are protected by the U.S. Constitution against cruel and unusual punishment, sexual abuse, and assault. They also have a right to legal counsel, the right to free speech, and the freedom to practice their religion. You may also post immigration bonds on their behalf or have a licensed bond agent post the bond. However, you cannot post the bond directly at the WTDF. The bond may be posted at a facility that accepts bonds for the WTDF through money order, cashier’s check, or certified check. Additionally, you must make all payments to the DHS or ICE.
The visitation schedule for the West Texas Detention Facility is organized according to gender.
Males – Friday and Saturday (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM)
Females – Sunday and Monday (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM)
Detainees are granted a thirty-minute visitation period with a maximum of two visitors at a time. If you are visiting a loved one, it is recommended that you arrive at least thirty minutes ahead of your scheduled visitation time. This would allow you to complete the appropriate security checks ahead of time.
Before you can visit a detainee, you must provide a valid picture identification. Additionally, all your personal belongings will be searched. You must comply with the facility dress code, including wearing clothing that does not portray pornography or sexually explicit or derogatory messages.
